ProTrainings and the American Heart Association are separate, independent training companies. Both ProTrainings and the AHA teach the same CPR techniques recommended by the international scientific group, ILCOR, the international scientific body that develops CPR guidelines.

Guidelines for administering CPR are developed by the international scientific group, ILCOR. The AHA has the special role of sharing these guidelines in the U.S. Because of this, many people think that the AHA approves or accredits other CPR training organizations, but they do not.

Following ILCOR’s guidelines is like meeting federal automotive safety standards: while there may be other differences between cars, they all meet the minimum safety requirements.

Does ProTrainings use AHA curriculum?

CPR guidelines are developed by the international scientific group, ILCOR. Independent training groups like the AHA, the American Red Cross, ProTrainings and others use ILCOR’s guidelines to develop their own curriculum.

The only people who use the American Heart Association’s curriculum are independent instructors who pay the AHA to do so. These same instructors may also pay other groups to use and teach their curriculum.

Is ProTrainings’ CPR certification compliant with AHA guidelines?

CPR guidelines are developed by the international scientific group, ILCOR. Because these guidelines are re-published for sharing throughout the U.S. by the AHA, many people refer to them as “the AHA guidelines”. ProTrainings’ CPR certification follows these standards and every ProTrainings certification card states that the student has learned CPR according to the latest ILCOR guidelines as communicated by the AHA.

What accreditations does ProTrainings have?

CPR guidelines are developed by the international scientific group, ILCOR. All ProTrainings certifications follow these guidelines and therefore safety and compliance groups like the Joint Commission, CARF or OSHA all accept our training. The international scientific group, ILCOR, develops these resuscitation guidelines and is recognized as the leading authority by these organizations. ProTrainings’ CPR training follows ILCOR guidelines and, as a result, these organizations all accept our CPR certifications.

Will my employer or governing body accept or recognize a ProTrainings’ CPR certification?

Employers and governing bodies understandably want to ensure CPR training follows the latest science-back guidelines. The international scientific group, ILCOR, develops these guidelines and ProTrainings’ curriculum follows ILCOR guidance, so most employers accept our certifications.

That said, an employer can choose to require that you take CPR training from a specific company. Unless your employer has such a requirement, you can take CPR training with the company of your choice.
