Online-Only vs Blended (online + hands-on):
Our CPR courses are offered in three formats: 100% online (cognitive only), fully classroom, or as an accredited Blended certification, which includes a practical hands-on skills assessment with one of our certified instructors.
There are several key differences between these three certificates. The information and sample certificates provided below will clarify those differences, explain their significance, and help you determine the type of training that best suits your needs.
Online-Only:
The online-only certification card is for students who are not required to complete a hands-on training for their workplace or regulatory body. This 100% online-only certification card can be noticed by these features:
- It will be empty on the top front of the card (others will show blended or classroom here).
- There will be only one instructor listed, and will always be, Roy Shaw.
- The statement on the bottom front of the card will read that the national cognitive portion of the course was completed, (missing the "skills evaluation" portion of the statement).
Blended (online + hands-on):
Unlike our 100% online course, our Blended learning format includes a hands-on portion. After completing online videos and testing, students schedule a hands-on practice with a ProTrainings certified Instructor to perform the practical skills portion of the course they've studied online.
Upon completion, the certificate will be labeled "BLENDED" and will include:
-
Roy Shaw’s name as the "Instructor"
-
The hands-on evaluator name and registry number listed under "Skill Evaluator"
-
"Blended" label at the top of the certificate
-
The statement at the bottom indicates "National Cognitive and Skills Evaluation," proving a practical demonstration was included.
All Blended courses feature a "live" component. Instructors can certify whether skills were assessed through a "live, in-person evaluation" or a "live, remote evaluation." Students perform skills on a manikin and are guided through each step by a ProTrainings Instructor, ensuring they gain the necessary hands-on experience and confidence to manage real-life emergencies.

Traditional Classroom
Traditional Classroom courses are conducted at a specific location where the instructor is set up with instructional tools, manikins, and classroom supplies. The students arrive to class expected to participate in classroom activities, discussions, written exams, and hands-on training components. Upon successful completion, students receive a CPR certification card.
Here are the elements to look for to know you are receiving a classroom certification:
-
"CLASSROOM" label at the top of the certificate
-
The statement at the bottom states "National Cognitive and Skills Evaluation," proving a practical demonstration was included.
- Under "Instructor" you will find the instructor's name and registry listed. (This should not say Roy Shaw, as his name only goes on fully online and blended courses.)
Did you know? A card with the “ProCPR by ProTrainings” logo indicates that a student has been certified in one of the seven ProCPR courses listed below. The specific course, named by content, will be listed directly underneath the red banner, such as:
