What is a Blended course, and how do I know if my employees need one?

A Blended course includes a hands-on component (in which employees demonstrate their skills on a manikin in front of an evaluator) after the online training and test have been completed.

An employee needs a Blended course if:

  • Your state or national regulatory agency requires it. If your industry is regulated by a state or national agency (for example, Ohio’s Department of Job and Family Services or the national Occupational Safety and Health Administration), your company may be required to ensure that your employees complete a hands-on CPR/AED course. Check with your regulatory agency to be sure about their certification requirements.
  • Their state or national licensing board requires it. If your employee maintains a professional license, the body issuing their license or professional credential (for example, California’s Board of Registered Nursing or the Academy of General Dentistry) may require that they have a hands-on demonstration with their CPR/AED course in order to obtain renewal. Your employee should check with their specific board to be sure of their certification requirements.
  • You decide to require it as an employer. As their employer, you can choose to require that your employees complete a hands-on demonstration with their CPR/AED course, even if no other regulatory agency or state board requires it.
